OUT TO THE FARM

A couple of shots from the orchard, these are hazelnut trees, it's about harvest time. The road shot is Monte Cristo Rd. That's how you get out there

change up

Some deliberately random selections from the archives. These are all old shots, a couple of years anyway, the hook was taken 7 years ago, on film and was one of the first prints I made in my darkroom.

Been shooting so much sports action and weddings, and it's all is starting to feel and look the same, thought I would toss these out for a change of pace.

Here and there

Been pretty busy lately, shot a wedding, went to Montana, been on a short roady with E and after all that photographic opportunity, the best shot came after I shot a soccer game right here in town.

Pictured is the main drag in Whitehall, MT, the tunnel leading to the football field at the University of Montana--GO GRIZ-A couple of shot from a jaunt with Eric last Saturday, you can see the shot that E took while I took this shot of him if you visit his blog. The wedding shot is obvious and the sunset I took just a couple days ago right across the street from the high school here in town.

E--pure rock fury

This is Eric. He's my wifes brother, a good friend, and a pretty good photographer in his right. It's a good day when the 2 of us are able to load our gear in the truck and take off. Maybe it's the ease of the company that has allowed me to shoot the shots of him I have. This is a small sampling of those shots, but I think some of the better shots. This collection here might just be some of the best portraits I've done period. They are spontaneous and in the moment as well as honest and revealing. Please be sure to check his blog.

Playing with fire

Ok a few more from camping, sorry but it's really been the only chance I've had to shoot something other than youth sports action. My favorite part of camping is drinking beer around the camp fire. This has the whole crew in here I'm on the left, then Rog and his son Zane, Brett is next and then Theo. The kids had fun with sticks in the fire, is there anything more mezmerizing than fire? The other shots are of places we visited, the Astoria Column, The light house on the North Head Of Cape Dissapointment at the mouth of the Columbia River, and a shot of my hass, on the beach....kinda strange I guess, but it was the look I'm hoping for from the film I was shoot in it.

More from the beach

Some more shots from my camping trip a week or so ago. These are from the second day. Went into Astoria to kick around wound up down by the docks the Red Eagle caught my eye, this boat has seen some rough miles, this photo doesn't show all the dents and dings, but it's in pretty rough shape. The sunset was not real colorful, so I shot it black and white and my buddy Rog took a shot of me while he held onto my digital camera for me. The birds in the sunset are pelicans, they flew by by the dozens kinda funny kinda weird.

Happy 4th

Ok these are from the 3rd, and a couple days late, but work and all that other stuff has kept me from posting sooner. We did family fireworks out to the farm because Uncle E would be there, and it just sounded like fun. The family fireworks, the stuff from the stands has always been my favorite, as opposed to going and seeing a big fireworks show, we always did our own growing up. The 4th was always a great night. We were going to go see a big firework show on the 4th, but we were a little too tired so we staid home, the boys protested, but not too much. I kinda wanted to go so I could get a couple shots of the big ones to post, but these will work.

Camping with the boys

Took a couple days off tis week and went camping. A boys trip, a friend and his son and my 2 boys. Went to the Northern Oregon Coast Ft. Stevens to be exact, just a ways out of Astoria, OR. Had a great time. The camp ground is about half a mile from the wreck of the Peter Iredale, a ship that ran aground there in 1906. A shot of it here along with a pic of my oldest eclipsing the sun, and another sunset pic from the first night there. Took a ton of shots, will try to post some of the kids and other sites we took in.

summer is here

Shot some softball action last night, but shot these while I was waiting for the games to start. Think these might have been the best shots of the night. My mind was elsewhere.

A Day at the Races

Went to the Grand Prix of Portland on Sunday. This has become a Fathers day tradition for my buddies and I, what a way to spend father's day, completely with out kids, just beer and cars and genuine male bonding! Our wives wouldn't know what to do with us if we didn't do this, it's somethng of a day off for them too, as they get together and do the same same thing, only they do women things, they call it scrapbooking. Really they kick ther kids outside to play and they drink and make fun of their hubbies. A good day for all involved.

Anyway back to the races. This year it was overcast, comfortable, but made the light a little soft and the color doesn't pop like it does when it's bright and sunny. Probably the best shots I have access to are from the pits. But even from there there is alot of clutter and and a person has tro stay out of the way, unless you have a photo pass, maybe next year. These would be really cool if I could animate a series from the pit stops, I shot off about 15-25 shots on a couple of the stops and you get a real appreciattion of how synchonized and how hard these team work when you can see the progression of the stops. Will post a few here now and probably a couple latter.

berrys

Since my last 2 post post were of my youngest 2 kids, it would seem that the next post would be of the oldest. However, I don't seem to have the kinds of pics of him that I want to put up. Maybe I'll have to sit him down with a backdrop and try something formal. He's old enough He might let me do that without driving me crazy.

Instead I thought I would post these shots I took on Sunday out at the farm. Berry vines and blossoms always seem to catch my eye. Maybe it's because they seem to pop-up in place that are untended or forgotten, and they add an accent to those notions. I thought the old barn wood would make a nice backdrop for the leaves, the green and red the old wood and the new growth....the soft light seemed to fit the mood I was in. Don't know if they work, but they are kinda growing on me.

Brett

A couple shots of my middle kid, Brett. he's a pretty good ball player, when he wants to be. He also plays a mean fiddle. The hair cut he recently got makes him look way older. Kinda like an 8 year old looking closer to 18!

Amy

I've been slacking on taking pictures of my own kids lately. So when I had a day off this week I thought it might be a good idea and take some shots of my daughter Amy. She was less than cooperative, she was actually a little bent that I was slacking on the pushing. Anyway these are the highlights. Man I hate having to pay other people to get decent shots of my kids, but it seems that's the way it goes.
